Teenage coders behind Tampon Run take their feminist game to the App Store

Natasha Tiku of the publishing powerhouse The Verge wrote an article about Sophie Houser and Andrea Gonzales, creators of the game Tampon Run. The young ladies designed Tampon Run during a summer program hosted by the organization Girls Who Code. Tampon Run allows the player to fire tampons to opposing enemies who “confiscate tampons if she lets them pass by”. Houser and Gonzales have an iOS version of this game as well. Companies such as Nehal Mehta’s Pivotal have continued to help the girls market the iOS version and a supposed upcoming book about women who create computer coding. The ladies hope that through their work they serve as en example of women with successful coding ventures who were able to stand in the wake of such scandals as Gamergate.
