Teaching in the Age of Minecraft

Science writer Alexandra Ossola wrote this article about Minecraft, a game that has been downloaded more than 18 million times and is the most commercially successful computer program to date. Minecraft, a game once used for recreational purposes only, is now in the form of the TeacherGaming software MinecraftEdu. MinecraftEdu allows teachers to adjust the coding of the game to meet Common Core Standards and other learning requirements. Students can build towns and develop spatial and dexterity skills while teachers continue to post coding alterations in blogs for the game.  Joel Levin, one of the creators of TeacherGaming, created a blog that expounds on the power of  everyday classroom rules as a fixture in the games.
